Parish Sesquicentennial Celebration

October 13, 2002
St. Alphonsus Parish celebrated its Sesquicentennial. It was 150 years ago, in October 1852, that the first church was dedicated. This event was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday October 13, 2002. Cardinal Maida joined us on this special occassion.

A statue of Our Lady was erected and blessed on the front lawn of the Church as part of this celebration. Mary is mention in the Koran (the Islamic Scriptures). The Islamic people have great respect toward Our Lady as a model of faithful response to God. Mary is a bridge between the two great religions and can become a real symbol of peace in our neighborhood and in our world.
